A Marriage License must be purchased prior to a Marriage Ceremony occurring.

A Public Marriage License purchased from the County Clerk may be used to perform a ceremony anywhere in the state of California. However, it must be recorded in the same county it was issued in. For restrictions on Confidential Marriage Licenses please call (707) 263-2311.

Our hours are Monday-Friday (excluding holidays) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A couple may come in at anytime during those hours to apply.

Marriage Certificates
A certified copy of a registered marriage license, also called a Marriage Certificate, may be required for legal purposes.

Pursuant to a proclamation from Governor Brown, fees for certified copies of marriage records are suspended for any party who lot such record as a result of the recent wildfires. When requesting a free copy this Sworn Statement must be included with your application.

Public Marriage Licenses are registered with the County Recorder's Office, to obtain a certified copy please refer to the " Marriage Certificate Application" located on their website under Recorder Forms.

Confidential Marriage Licenses are registered with the County Clerk's Office, to obtain a certified copy please complete the Application for a Certified Copy of a Confidential Marriage License.

Note: Confidential marriage licenses may only be obtained by one of the two parties to the marriage, a mailed application will only be accepted if the Certificate of Acknowledgement is completed by a notary public to confirm the identity of the applicant.

The County Clerk's Office does not handle divorce documents. For information regarding those documents please contact the Lake County Superior Court.
