Book to Action

The Book-to-Action program is a variation on the traditional library book group—it offers participants not only the opportunity to collectively read and discuss a book, but also to put their newfound knowledge into action by engaging in a community service project or activity related to the book's topic.

For the 2018 Book to Action program the Lake County Library selected Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown. Braving the Wilderness explores the disconnectedness many in society feel today. The author, a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, contends that the only way to develop a sense of true belonging is to truly and courageously be your authentic self. In her book, she mixes research and personal stories to detail four steps to accomplish true belonging: moving in, being civil, holding hands with strangers and having a strong front, soft back.

Get your free copy of the book, Braving the Wilderness, from any branch of the Lake County Library starting March 6th and then join in the events and discussions going on throughout the month of April! A "Braving the Wilderness" activity calendar will also be available as part of the Book to Action series of events.
