Employment & Training

Employment Services

All CalWORKs recipients over age 18 participate in Employment Service’s Welfare-to-Work (WTW) program, unless exempt. Employment Services offers free programs that help you prepare for and obtain employment by helping you gain the necessary skills and training to find a living wage job. Your Eligibility Specialist will let you know if you must participate in Employment Services Welfare-to-Work program.

After attending orientation at Employment Services, your Employment and Training Worker will work with you to create an employment plan tailored around your goals.

Career Pathways

If your goal is immediate employment we assist you with career exploration, job search, resume development and interview preparation. We can also offer placement in work experience and/or paid on-the-job training programs.

If your chosen path includes further education leading to a certificate or degree, we can assist in obtaining your GED, support vocational training and college including books and supplies. Even after you have found a job, you may be able to continue receiving limited services through our job retention program.

Supportive Services

Additional supports are available to help you succeed in reaching your goals such as paying for childcare, transportation assistance, interview/work clothes. We can help you to overcome barriers to employment by assisting you to receive mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment, overcome domestic violence, obtain a driver’s license or receive learning disability testing, assessment and accommodation, to name a few.

Other Programs:

  • Cal-Learn provides supports for pregnant and/or parenting teens with the goal of graduating high school.
  • Facilitation of Disability Applications (FDA) assists clients through the social security disability process.
  • Linkages and Differential Response programs provide support for clients involved with CWS
  • Family Stabilization can assist you to overcome a crisis situation such as homelessness so you can continue participating and progressing toward your set goals.
