Employment and Training Services
CalWORKs recipients can participate in employment and training activities as part of the required Welfare-to-Work program. Employment Services staff works with participants to assist them in designing an employment plan based on their short and long term goals. Services include job search readiness training including resume writing, interviewing techniques, and preparation. An appraisal and assessment of each client’s existing employment history and current skills helps to identify an appropriate career pathway. Barriers to employment can be addressed through referrals and supportive services including behavioral health, substance abuse, domestic violence, and/or crisis situation intervention. Clients needing to build skills can be supported in education, work experience, and/or subsidized employment. As participants progress through employment training services, they stay in close contact with staff to ensure they are receiving appropriate and effective services in order to become self-sufficient.
